Party Party!

This weekend we got our closest friends and family together to celebrate Avery's first birthday! Her actual birthday was back on the 6th, but the closest date we could get for the party was this weekend. I am so thankful for the extra time because I made all of her birthday decorations myself, and I almost hate to admit, I started way back in December. So as you can see, I've been busy!

The invitations

And the party!

The cupcakes toppers are by Martha Stewart from her cute party collection!
I am in complete love over her teeny tiny smash cake!
The mason jars with flags were the center pieces for the tables! Wish I had remembered to get more shots of the party set up, but I was busy chasing around a very curious one year old!
Lots of our cute friends (and cute brother!) getting our party on!
For those close to me, they know all about my search for a wooden high chair, and the lengths I've gone to get one. Luck was on my side and I ended up with this beauty in near perfect condition at the last minute, and spray painted for the party in just the nick of time! Sooooo happy I ended up with it. It definately added to the cuteness of her party!

Big brother Elliott did the honors!

She knew exactly what to do! There was no holding back for this child!

My favorite part of the party was having all the children around Avery, laughing their butts off at this baby making a huge mess of her birthday cake. They seriously thought it was the funniest thing ever!

"Here, Ma! Taste!!"
Now that Avery was nice and messy, it was a perfect time for a family portrait! Avery had other plans, like smash cake into her brother's face like every good sister should!

At this point she was head to toe in cake, so we gave her a sink bath, a fresh change of clothes, and she was ready to get her party back on! Her hair was a hot mess though, thanks to the massive amounts of icing she mashed in there. No amount of washing (without shampoo) could cure it!

Avery loved all the gifts she got! And judging by the amount of clothing she got, she will be one stylish kid for the rest of the summer!!
Walking around, making her rounds... just being the social butterfly really she is!

But, as fast as it came, it went. I finally got a moment to breathe during the party and looked around, and it was over! Having everyone we love and care about there to celebrate with us was just so touching, it's always guarenteed to be an amazing time! Thank you to everyone who came!!

Want to know more about some of the crafts I made for her party? Check out my Avery's First Birthday Pinterest board! I've been saving ideas there since the day she was born!! (Okay, atleast since the day I got a Pinterest account!) I obviously didn't make everything on the board, but you can pick out what I decided to make from there!

Hope you all enjoyed her party as much as I enjoyed sharing it!!

Here's to another year, Miss A!

The Cute Club

For Avery's birthday, her grandma ended up getting her this sweet little clubhouse for her to play in. Today, we ended up putting it together since we had yet another amazing day, and she got to give it a test run!

Looks like she approved! Thank you grandma for the nice gift! Elliott will be thrilled when he comes home from his other grandma's tomorrow to see it put together. I'm sure he will think it's his LOL

I noticed that our daffodils are in full bloom, and thought it would be sweet to introduce Avery to flowers! I forget that all of these things are still new to her, and I love that I get to experience all the newness of everything with her all over again! She didn't know what they were, but she liked them!
I tried to teach her how to smell them, but she must have mistaken me for EATING them. So that's exactly what she did.
Apparently they didn't taste as good as they looked!
But don't let that stop her from trying again!

Hope everyone had a happy and safe St. Patty's day! We didn't do much to celebrate this year other than to dress Avery in some green. Ooh well! Maybe next year!

Now get outside and enjoy this weather!

Treat for the Night Owls!

Okay, I don't care if you are lounging around in your pajamas catching up on blog posts, or at work... but you need to drop everything you are doing, and hurry outside. You may have noticed two bright stars off to the west after the sun sets in the evening, they are infact not stars at all. They are the planets Venus and Jupiter. What makes this week so special is that we earthlings have had the opportunity to watch these two lovely planets put on a show for us, the both of them, together!

This photo was taken Wednesday evening, so tonight will probably be the last best chance to capture them in a photo together. On Monday they ended up aligned, and it was one of the most amazing planetary phenomenons that I had ever seen with my own eyes! (Possibly the ONLY planetary phenomenon I've ever seen with my own eyes, haha!)

Then, while outside, look straight up. See that bright red star? That's Mars! It should be almost directly above you. This photo was taken very early in the morning, so you can see that it had moved it's course through the night towards the west.

But wait! There's MORE!! During the very late night hours, if you look to the east, you are able to see yet another planetary beauty. Her name is Saturn! She likes to play in the constelations, so finding her is a little more tricky. I suggest using an app, such as Google Sky Maps to get an exact location on her, or any of the other planets if you seem to be having trouble.

Now, grab your lawn chairs, your cameras, and your kids and get outside and soak up the nautral beauty of these facinating planets and the rest of what the night sky has to offer!

Taste of Summer

This week was a sure reminder of days to come. We have had record-high temperatures all week long and it's given us a chance to open up the windows, visit some parks and stretch out those winter legs, and most importantly try on all those summer dresses we've been staring at in Avery's closet for what seems like forever!

Most of our days have looked alot like this:

Seeing how fast we can run through the playground

Swinging as high as we can, because it's apparently the funnest thing. Ever.

Spending some quality sibling bonding time

Discovering new things we've never seen before

Exploring in new places, and looking back at mom to make sure this is okay. This is okay, right?

Playing in the mud, just because we can.

Quenching our thirst with a cool drink, and savoring every.last.drop.

Just feeling the air between our (dirty) piggies, and letting the grass tickle our feet.

To us, this is summer. It is so strange to us seeing trees with no leaves and people in shorts! And even if the weather doesn't stick around, because, it IS still winter after all (First day of spring is on March 20th, 5 more days!!) it was nice having a taste of summer to whet our appetite!

Easy Peasy Tater Tot Casserole!

A few months ago, I had an itch for tater tot casserole and had not a CLUE on how to make it. I scrounged around on recipe websites to get an idea, and this is what I came up with. This was my first ever experimental recipe, and boy was it GOOD! Even my picky hubby went back for seconds! Worth a try for a quick and easy dinner! And plus it's Gluten-free, double win! (Don't mistake that for healthy *ahem*)

It's in the oven right at this moment for us to pack up for dinner! I'm drooling already.

Easy Peasy Tater Tot Casserole!

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
1/2 cup milk
1 cup corn
1 lb. Velveeta cheese spread, melted
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 bag of tots
salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Brown beef and onion together, drain fat, and put back on heat. Add in milk, corn, and 1/2 the Velveeta (8oz), salt and pepper to taste.. cook a few minutes until a creamy mixture. Pour into a 9x13 dish.
Pour remaining melted Velveeta on top. Layer tots on top, and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until tots are golden brown.
And enjoy!

[For you gluten-free'ers, please check the ingredients in your tots!!]

Thawing out

Okay, SERIOUSLY. Could you believe today?! If I didn't know any better I would have thought it was spring! I contemplated packing away our coats and winter gear for the year, but decided I didn't want to be held responsible for jinxing this amazing weather and making Old Man Winter rear his ugly head again!

So we happily forgot our coats at home, and took a nice family walk to our local ice cream shoppe and got some cones!

Elliott decided on a butterscotch dipped cone, which might I add, was HEAVEN.

Avery, although having a minor milk allergy was very jealous of our cones, so I let her eat the rest of my cone after I had ate all the ice cream from it. I was immediately promoted to both best and worst mom ever.

Yesterday while talking to the receptionist at my doctor's office, he made her guess what his favorite colors were. "Red, White, and Blue!" I had to giggle, of course it was! Isn't that some kind of requirement for being born on the 4th of July? Hehee

We had such a nice time out all together, that we were sad that we gobbled up our cones in just a matter of minutes. Walking back home was just as nice, and the sugar rush sure put everyone in a great mood! I did notice one member of the family who got their sugar crash before the rest.

And not even an hour later, while playing in the back yard

Sure hope the weatherman holds up his end of the bargain, because I can't wait for more days like today!
